Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC) is used to identify logistics devices. Which means, for example, that two exactly the same pallets with the same product are uniquely identified by separate SSCC.

In situations where a product needs to be traceable, it is useful that the individual shipment is identified. The SSCC is one of the most important keys to information about the individual shipping unit.

The structure of SSCC is as follows:

The first digit (Vs1) indicates a company controlled prefix. The company can decide which digit is used. The following 7 digits (P1-R7) indicate the company prefix, which is the GS1 Prefix and the company reference number. The next 9 digits (F1-F9) are available to the company and indicate a consecutive number. The last digit (K) is a check digit.

Together, all 18 digits provide a globally unique sequential number to identify a logistics device.
