Application Identifier 241 is used for the customer's supplemental product identification. It can be used in a situation where the customer has assigned a given product an internal number, even if the product has already been identified by a GTIN number. It is recommended that companies do not use AI 241 unless strictly necessary, as AI 241 should be considered as a temporary solution until GTIN product numbers are fully used.
AI 241 does not replace AI 01 for GTIN number as the primary identification of the product. Ai 241 must always be used with AI 01 or AI 02.
