In common parlance, many people know the GTIN as a barcode, but technically the GTIN is the number below the barcode symbol itself, and can therefore also be used for other technologies such as 2D barcodes and RFID tags.
The last digit in all GS1 numbers is a check digit.
The check digit is calculated from the preceding digits. It is used as a check for both the GS1 number and the barcode.
Therefore, it is important that the check digit is correct - otherwise the barcode cannot be read.
The check digits are calculated according to the Modulus-10 algorithm
