Some packaging consists of both a main component and integrated components. By definition, an integrated component is a packaging component that cannot be easily removed from the main component for transportation or waste sorting.
A jam jar is an example of a packaging consisting of a main component (jar) and an integrated component (label). This product is the starting point for the following guide. Another example is a spice jar (main component) where the integrated component (lid) is welded on.
Packaging consisting of a main component and an integrated component must be environmentally graded together according to the Environmental Protection Agency's executive order. In addition, the weight of the integrated component must be added to the weight of the main component. Therefore, it is necessary that the integrated component is connected to the main component in GS1Trade Packaging. Here we show you how:
From the dashboard, click the Packaging master data menu item at the top of the page.
Click the Create button and select Create new component, fill in the fields and select Save.
Next, you create the embedded component (in this example label).
Follow the same procedure as before, click Create new component, fill in the fields and select Save.
Then go back to the main component (the glass).
Click Edit on the 'Integrated components' tab.
Select the embedded component from the list and drag it into the empty field.
Under the 'Composite' field, select from the dropdown list how the integrated component is attached to the main component.
Click Save.
You have now enriched your main component with an integrated component and are ready to eco-grade. Not sure how to eco-grade a packaging component?

You can now create packaging units that include the main component. Please note that integrated components are automatically included with the main component, so you only need to add the main component to your packaging unit - not add the integrated component.
