How GS1Trade Packaging creates value for Trendy Beauty Products

TBP is rapidly evolving from a small trading company into a Nordic concept house for beauty and personal care. Today, the company works closely with its customers to develop trendsetting products – and packaging data has become an important part of that process.

Today,GS1Trade Packaging has become a natural part of TBP's way of doing business – not just to comply with regulations, but as a strategic tool.

“We need to keep track of everything we do,” says Robert Erichsen, COO at TBP A/S. “That’s why we use GS1’s solutions, because we need to be sure that we have all the information in one place and can draw on it.”

One unified platform for packaging data

When TBP implemented a new ERP system, it quickly became clear that it could not handle packaging data at the level of detail their customers require.

“We thought we would have packaging data in the ERP system, but it can’t handle it,” says Robert. “SoGS1Trade Packaging is the preferred solution for storing everything – especially when we work with grocery chains and several Nordic chains.”

From reporting to business development

With a business where item numbers constantly change from month to month, the amount of data is huge.

“One month, all products are active, and the next month, they are inactive because we are working on something new,” says Robert. “We are essentially replacing everything.”

TBP now has an administrative coordinator who dedicates half of their time to packaging data. Although the process has been challenging, the work now provides value internally within the company, where packaging data is used for both environmental assessments and process optimization:

  • Full overview of packaging costs per SKU
  • opportunity to optimize materials and environmental impact
  • data basis for calculating prices, customs duties, and future calculations
  • stronger ESG reporting

A collaboration based on sparring

TBP has been in close dialogue with GS1 Denmark during the start-up phase.

“We have talked extensively with GS1,” says Robert. “Initially, we needed to validate large amounts of data. GS1’s sparring meant that we could get it right the first time. This has been crucial because you cannot remove data again.”

Robert explains that the process surrounding packaging data has been challenging: "At times, it has felt like flying a plane and building the wings at the same time," he continues, but Trendy Beauty Products has reached a point where they can see that the work is paying off.
