Get started creating barcodes and sharing product data

At GS1 Denmark, you can subscribe to a range of services that enable you to use GS1's global standards for identification, labeling and data sharing.

We've gathered the most frequently asked questions and information to help you quickly get started with our most commonly used standards and services.

How do I get a GLN/EAN number?

An EAN number is most often referred to as a GLN (Global Location Number). The number is used for electronic exchange of orders and invoices via EDI or OIOUBL.

A GS1 membership automatically includes a GLN/EAN number.
The membership costs 500 dkk/year.

If you need a GTIN (Global Trade Item Number), which are the numbers printed under a standard EAN-13 barcode symbol, you need a GS1ID subscription. This allows you to create unique identification numbers. You purchase access to the GS1ID service viaMy GS1.

How do I get multiple GLN/EAN numbers?

A GS1 membership automatically includes a GLN/EAN. The membership costs 500 DKK/year.

You can register multiple GLN numbers yourself if you have a GS1ID number series. If you do not have a GS1ID number series, it can be purchased via My GS1.

There are several quantity packages available. You can choose between: 1 piece, 10 pieces, 100 pieces, 1,000 pieces, 10,000 pieces or 100,000 pieces.

How do I create a barcode?

If you need to use barcodes, you must first of all have a GS1 membership (which costs 500 DKK/year) and then a GS1ID subscription, which allows you to create unique identification numbers.

You buy a GS1ID subscription via My GS1.

With this subscription, you can, for example, create GTINs (Global Trade Item Number), which is the name of the identification number printed under the barcode symbol.

There are several quantity packages available. You can choose between: 1 piece, 10 pieces, 100 pieces, 1,000 pieces, 10,000 pieces or 100,000 pieces.

Read more about the structure of the number here under the heading "How to use GTIN-13". Once you have your number, you can easily create barcodes via GS1Trade Activate.

How do I send electronic invoices?

If you need to send electronic invoices, you need a GLN (Global Location Number). As part of your GS1 membership, you automatically have a GLN number. If you need more than one GLN number, you can register them yourself if you have a GS1ID number series.

If you do not have a GS1ID number series, it can be purchased via My GS1.
You can find your GLN numbers in GS1Trade Activate. Once you have your GLN number, you can register it in NemHandel.

How do I generate pallet labels?

If you need to create GS1-128 pallet labels, here is a quick guide to building and placing GS1-128 pallet labels. You need a GS1ID number (formerly known as GTIN-13) to create pallet labels.

If you do not have a GS1ID number series, it can be purchased via My GS1.
With a GS1ID subscription, you can create as many identification numbers as you need, whether it's for products, pallets, location numbers or anything else.

How do I send product data to Coop, Salling Group or other companies?

If you need to exchange product master data electronically with the retail or foodservice sector (instead of filling out an Excel sheet or similar documents), GS1Trade Sync is the solution for you.

GS1Trade Sync is a database that your company can access and where you as a supplier can create your product information. The advantage is that you only need to enter your product master data in one place, from where your customers can receive it.

If you want to use GS1Trade Sync, you can purchase access to this service via My GS1. A GS1 membership (500 DKK/year) is required to use this service.

How do I exchange data abroad?

If you need to exchange product master data electronically with foreign customers, you can use GS1Trade Sync. The platform is part of the global network, GDSN (Global Data Synchronization Network).

GS1Trade Sync is a database that your company can access and where you as a supplier can create your product information. The advantage for you is that you can simply enter your product master data in one place, from where your customers can receive it.

If you want to use GS1Trade Sync, you can purchase access to this service via My GS1. It requires a GS1 membership (500 dkk/year) to use this service.

To use GS1Trade Sync requires an annual subscription and one or more annual usage subscriptions.

Your usage will be charged depending on whether you are a Data Supplier* or Data Recipient.
