New app enables reduction of medicine waste in the Central Denmark Region

Get up close to the Central Denmark Region and hear how the pharmaconomists in Clinical Pharmacy got Rune Rask and the IT development team to develop an app that makes the process of reviewing the shelf life of medicines in the medicine rooms about two and a half times faster than before.

The app, called HRM Expiry, allows staff to scan the barcode of medicine packages and get a virtual catalog of medicine packages, as well as a quick real-time overview of when the medicine expires.

At the same time, the app allows you to discard, use or release medicine, effectively reducing the amount of medicine waste in the region.

This digital solution, which uses GS1 standards, contributes to greater patient safety, relieves staff and has saved the region almost DKK 2.5 million in the first 16 months by exchanging 5,600 medicine packages across departments and hospitals. And the potential for expansion is huge.

What you get out of participating

  • Insight into a new digital solution that saves money and manpower and is available for all authorities to develop.
  • Knowledge about how Central Denmark Region has developed the medicine app in close collaboration with healthcare professionals.
  • Insights into how organizations can use information smarter via a GS1 barcode.

The webinar is for you...

... working to increase patient safety, reduce medication waste or streamline workflows. For example, you could be a pharmacist, nurse, and work with quality or medicine in a hospital or municipality. You could also work with IT projects, procurement and supply security.
