In common parlance, many people know the GTIN as a barcode, but technically the GTIN is the number below the barcode symbol itself, and can therefore also be used for other technologies such as 2D barcodes and RFID tags.

Get up close to the Central Denmark Region and hear how the pharmaconomists in Clinical Pharmacy got Rune Rask and the IT development team to develop an app that makes the process of reviewing the shelf life of medicines in the medicine rooms about two and a half times faster than before.
The app, called HRM Expiry, allows staff to scan the barcode of medicine packages and get a virtual catalog of medicine packages, as well as a quick real-time overview of when the medicine expires.
At the same time, the app allows you to discard, use or release medicine, effectively reducing the amount of medicine waste in the region.
This digital solution, which uses GS1 standards, contributes to greater patient safety, relieves staff and has saved the region almost DKK 2.5 million in the first 16 months by exchanging 5,600 medicine packages across departments and hospitals. And the potential for expansion is huge.
