In common parlance, many people know the GTIN as a barcode, but technically the GTIN is the number below the barcode symbol itself, and can therefore also be used for other technologies such as 2D barcodes and RFID tags.

GS1 Membership andGS1Trade Image

To use GS1Trade Image, your company must be a member of GS1 Denmark and have a subscription to GS1Trade Image. In addition, you only pay for the images or image packages you order.

With GS1 membership, you automatically receive one GLN number (also known as an EAN number). The GLN is used to identify your company when exchanging data with trading partners and is also used in electronic commerce, such as for invoicing.

How much does it cost?

To useGS1Trade Image, you need a subscription to the service, after which you will be billed based on your usage. You only pay for the images or image packages you order, such as product shots, product in-use images, or CGI.

Would you like us to perform a quality check on your product data?

With GS1Trade Exact, we verify the product data you share with your trading partners against the physical product. Once the data is approved, the product receives a green stamp in GS1Trade Sync, indicating to your trading partners that the product information has been quality-assured.

What is GS1Trade Exact?

GS1Trade Exact is our service for ensuring the quality of the product data you share with your trading partners. We verify your physical product against the data you have entered inGS1Trade Sync, or create the data for you inGS1Trade Sync if you wish.

Once a product has been quality-assured, it is validated and receives a green stamp inGS1Trade Sync , so all your trading partners can see that your product data has been quality-checked. This helps provide greater peace of mind in day-to-day operations and allows data to flow more smoothly through systems.

At GS1 Denmark, we are required to collect information about the intended use of a GLN when we issue it. We publish this information inGS1Trade Activate (where you can find your GLN) and in Verified by GS1, which is GS1’s global registry of identifiers issued by GS1 organizations worldwide. 

Please select the option that best describes your intended use:

Digital Location: Do you need your GLN to send and receive orders and invoices electronically? Or to use aGS1Trade Service—such as Trade Sync or Trade Packaging? If so, select Digital Location.

Legal entity: If you need to use your GLN to identify a legal entity—such as a business, government agency, department, nonprofit organization, individual, or institution—select "Legal entity."

Function: A GLN can also be used to identify a department within an organization that does not have its own CVR number. If this is the primary purpose, select "Function."

Fixed physical location: Do you need to use your GLN to identify a specific physical location—such as a meter, a fire hydrant, or similar—that has an address or location coordinate? If so, select "Fixed physical location."

Mobile physical location: Do you need to use your GLN to register a mobile physical location—such as a mobile blood bank or a ship? If so, select "Mobile physical location."

It is perfectly normal to use multiple GLNs for different purposes, but each GLN should have only one clearly defined primary use.

Why am I only paying part of the annual fee?

At GS1 Denmark, subscriptions are typically billed annually. When you sign up, you therefore only pay for the remainder of the current year. After that, the subscription will be renewed at the full annual rate.
