Concepts
Description
B
User and GLN overview
Under 'User', you can see the company's GLN number and who has administrator access. This provides an overview of who has access to what in the system.
D
Data import (ERP/PIM/GS1 Trade Sync)
Option to import data from your own ERP and PIM systems as well as from GS1 Trade Sync via integration (currently being rolled out).
Declaration of packaging data
Reporting packaging quantities and materials in the system so that the company can comply with its producer responsibility for packaging.
Design criterion
The requirement that a given package must meet in order to be placed in either the green, yellow, or red level. The classification is filled in and specified here.
E
Element type
A packaging type code that categorizes your packaging within the GDSN (GS1 Global Data Synchronization Network). For example, a jam jar would fall under the packaging type code "Glass/Jar."
Packaging classification
Covers both your component's environmental rating, recycling flow, and any other directives that your packaging is subject to, such as the Single Use Plastic Directive.
Packaging master data
The basic information about the packaging – e.g., material, weight, and components – which forms the basis for declaration and environmental grading.
Packaging system
Consists of all the packaging used to bring a product to market. An overview of how the packaging is connected across levels in the system – it can consist of up to three packaging levels: primary, secondary, and tertiary.
Unit (packaging)
The total packaging surrounding a product or shipment. A unit consists of one or more packaging components, both integrated and separate components. For example, a jam jar may consist of glass, a lid, and a label, and a shipping box may consist of a cardboard box and a label.
G
GS1Trade Packaging
System for collecting, structuring, and declaring packaging data developed in accordance with Danish legislation. You can perform environmental classification of packaging and prepare data for reporting.
GTIN
Global Trade Item Number is a number that identifies an item. The number is the same number you find under the lines on a barcode.
H
Main component
The primary component that constitutes the largest part of the packaging's weight and function. The main component will also be the one on which the entire packaging unit is typically assessed for environmental grading. For the packaging of a jam product, the glass will typically be the main component.
Housekeeping
Packaging originating from private consumers.
K
Collective scheme (aggregated data)
Support for the exchange of packaging data at an aggregated level for collective schemes – planned in and around the reporting module.
Commercial
Packaging originating from businesses.
Component (packaging)
An individual part of a packaging unit—glass, lid, label, tape, insert—which, on its own or together with other components, constitutes the packaging unit. Can be any material, e.g., cardboard, glass, or plastic.
Composite material
A material consisting of several different types of material. Must be specified in the system as a composite material, and the different material layers must be specified. Opposite of a monomaterial.
M
Marketed quantities
The calculated packaging quantities for products on the market are generated in the reporting module based on sales figures.
Material subcategory
The category for your packaging, for example, "Food and beverage carton." The material subcategories are defined based on both the material type and the recycling stream that the packaging is part of.
Environmentally graded contributions
A structure in which you classify your packaging according to material categories and associated design criteria. Depending on your classification, the packaging is placed in a red, yellow, or green category. It is an economic structure created by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency.
Environmental grading
A tool for assessing the recyclability of packaging. Packaging and components are assessed based on design criteria and placed in red, yellow, or green categories depending on their design and material.
Single material
A material consisting solely of a single type of material. As opposed to a composite material.
N
Net content
The content of the product measured without packaging, e.g., pieces or grams.
P
Product
The physical item or packaged product that the company places on the market or makes available, and which the packaging unit encloses or protects.
Product ID
Can also be translated into an internal item number or supplier number. Often optional to note in the system.
Product version
Is a snapshot of all directly and indirectly linked packaging master data at a given point in time. This provides a "fixed" basis for the calculation. If you add packaging classification data to a component after you have created a report, you must create a new product version.
R
Report
Module for calculating marketed packaging quantities by specifying sales figures, expected end user, and producer responsibility. Before creating a report, check that all components have complete packaging classification data (Waste type, Material category, and Environmental classification). Components that do not have packaging classification data will block reporting.
S
Status
Shows whether your product/master data/system is active or inactive. Active means that the product/master data/system is used and is active in relation to your product range, whereas inactive is used for products/master data/systems that are no longer used or relevant to your product range.
Separate component
A component of the packaging unit that can be documented to be completely and permanently separated from the main component during waste sorting or transport. For example, a lid on a jam jar, if the lid is removed before recycling and sorting.
V
Versioning and change indicator
Ability to create new versions (individually or in bulk) and see where changes have been made via an arrow/indicator in reports.
